ACTIVITY 13 – Oscilloscope Connected to a Signal Generator

This set-up is often used with a loudspeaker to teach pupils about the frequency and amplitude of signals and to relate these quantities to the pitch
and loudness of a sound.

What You Need
• Signal Generator
• Oscilloscope

What To Do
• Set the oscilloscope to produce a stable, horizontal trace.
• Adjust the oscilloscope and signal generator to display the following traces:
– Sine wave of (approximately) 300 Hz.
– Square wave of 300 Hz.
– Sine wave of frequency 4 kHz.
– Sawtooth of frequency 70 Hz.
– Sine wave of frequency 150 Hz.
– As above, but with a smaller amplitude (careful!).
