ACTIVITY 1 – Measuring Average Speed

What You Need
• Trolley or Model Car with “Mask”
• 2 Light Gates
• Metre Stick
• Electronic Timer
• Leads

What To Do
• Set up the apparatus as shown below.
• Position the trolley at the top of the slope.
• Reset the timer if necessary.
• Release the trolley, making sure that its mask passes through both light gates.
• Check that the timer starts and stops when it should and that the time is not too long or too short to be recorded properly by the timer.
